Dear SPWLA Member!
Welcome to the Society of Petrophysicists and Log Analysts (SPWLA) Local Abu Dhabi Chapter. The Abu Dhabi Chapter of the Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts was formed in 2003. It was the first Middle East chapter of this distinguished 52 year old international society. In the years following, SPWLA chapters were formed in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman and Kuwait.
We aim to provide a technical forum for geoscientists focused on all aspects of formation evaluation, from new tools available to new techniques and approaches to analyzing reservoirs, and to encourage formation evaluation professionals to network. In line with the founding principles of the SPWLA, the Abu Dhabi chapter is a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of the science of Petrophysics and Formation Evaluation. This includes well logging, coring, and other formation evaluation techniques and the application of these techniques in the exploitation of gas, oil and other minerals in the United Arab Emirates and Abu Dhabi.
The United Arab Emirates has committed to challenging production targets over the coming years. This requires technical expertise to maximize the recovery of oil and gas from carbonate reservoirs – which is challenging, due to their inherent heterogeneities.
On the other hand the Petrophysics community has witnessed large improvements in log quality, tool reliability, types of measurements, computer processing and data transmission capacity. Petrophysicists are key members of resource teams. Today’s Petrophysicist must be conversant in the sciences of core analyses, geology, geophysics and reservoir engineering, to understand the message the data is communicating.
To share this knowledge, best practice and any new ideas the Abu Dhabi chapter organizes monthly technical talks that are open to everyone.
I look forward to meeting you at the 8th topical conference and at our monthly technical meetings.
